This isn't really a "mommy" post, per se, as we're not planning to take C out for a New Year's Eve night on the town. (I don't know about other parents, but we think she should be at least 3 before she hits the Champers.)
But with my mom in town to babysit, Ian and I have decided to make a night of it -- we rarely go out these days -- and hit the Dresden Room, home to that kitschy-fun duo Marty and Elayne. This singing pair -- Marty on the drums and Elayne on keyboard and sometimes flute -- are a Hollywood institution and have been at the Dresden about 20 years. They were even featured in 1996 movie "Swingers" with Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau. (In the movie clip above, you can catch Marty in his sparkly black shirt in the top right corner.)
When we lived over on Vermont Ave. what seems like 100 years ago, we used to walk across the street and listen to them sing old chestnuts like "Come Fly With Me" and "The Way You Look Tonight" (not to mention "Stayin' Alive") as we drank apple martinis (me) and gin gimlets (Ian).
2008 has been a challenging year. We're eager to take a little parenting break to ring in a more "money" 2009. Happy New Year and have a safe and wonderful holiday!

Shawn and I have been meaning to check that place out since we moved out to LA three years ago. :) You've just given me inspiration to plan an outing!
You and Shawn should go! Ian and I had a great time last night. So kitchy and fun!
That sounds like a blast. Not only am I inspired to check out the bar, I now want to rewatch "Swingers." ;-)
