Giveaway: 'Sesame Street: 40 Years of Sunny Days'

There is nothing quite so special to a 2-year-old as getting serenaded by Sesame Street's Elmo.

CC got to experience that firsthand last week, when Elmo (along with longtime "Sesame Street" performer Kevin Clash) called to sing "CC's World."

It was adorable and made my toddler's day. She was already a fan of the furry little red monster -- he's stiff competition to her parents -- but this sealed the muppet deal, and she's been talking about it ever since.

"Sesame Street" is celebrating 40 years on the air this season and has not only updated the program with format tweaks and CGI elements, but the show is also offering a DVD that highlights the past 40 years.

I received a copy of "Sesame Street: 40 Years of Sunny Days," and it's pretty amazing ... and pretty poignant.

I love seeing the shaggy hair and bell bottoms from the early years, and I got a little choked up during the episode when the Street friends have to explain to Big Bird that Mr. Hooper isn't coming back.

The extras are great, too. Lots of behind-the-scenes action showing how puppets are designed and how the episodes are filmed. Seeing performers like Jim Henson, Frank Oz and Caroll Spinney in action is truly fascinating.

The most compelling part to me is how "Sesame Street" has stayed relevant and interesting all these years.

"We're a mirror image of what's going on in the world," said Kevin Clash. He added that the research department works hard to replicate what kids are learning, particularly in the sciences.

As I said before, to share a part of my childhood with my daughter -- granted, a hipper "Mad Men"-infused version of it -- is magical.

*** GIVEAWAY ***

I'm offering 1 copy of "Sesame Street: 40 Years of Sunny Days" to an L.A. Story reader. Just leave a comment below telling me your favorite "Sesame" character or moment of the show.

Good luck, and I'll announce the winner Monday, Nov. 23.

I'm crazy about Murray! I just love his interactions with Ovejita and the children on the Murray has a little lamb segment. He is just so funny and sincere when he talks to the kids.

My daughter's favorite is, of course, Elmo! What 2 year old isn't in love with Elmo!

Elmo. It's not so much that he is my favorite but he was my little cousins favorite. I remember how cute it was watching him go crazy for Elmo!

Oscar the Grouch! Sure, he is a grouch but even under all that fur there is still something lovable about him. Taught me a very important lesson as a child, that there is something good in every person. Even if that person lives in a trash can.

My favorite is Snuffleupagus. I was obsessed with him when I was younger. The best Christmas present I ever received was a stuffed Snuffleupagus. He was oh so soft and he had long lashes that batted when he moved.

I'd have to say Elmo is my favorite since my little 21mo. old daughter loves her books with Elmo and that he's on her diapers!

My favorite moment is from when I watched it as a little girl. Maria sang a song entirely about Trash/Basura. I loooved it!

My 3 year old daughter LOVES Grover. She likes to talk like him. :)

Okay, I'm not going to lie here. I actually spend a good portion of my time looking up old Sesame Street clips on youtube and marveling at how great they were. A lot of the classics I remember as a kid, and some of the classics I've never seen. I honestly can't pick a favorite, but my top two are probably Bert and Ernie giving Bert's nephew Brad a bath (the look of horror on Brad's face is priceless) and the "if I knew you were coming I would have baked a cake" song that Ernie sings to Cookie Monster (the dubbed in German version). Love this show! Even though their clips aren't my absolute favorites, I think the Twiddlebugs are my favorite characters!
