Last weekend, Ian and I played beach tennis in Bali, badminton on safari and squash in Hawaii.
OK, so we had a little help from a review copy of Ubisoft's "Racquet Sports" for the Wii. It was still fun and a real thrill for the imagination.
In fact, we even got to try our hand -- literally -- at playing the game sans controllers, thanks to a USB camera that comes with select editions of the game. The camera plugs into the Wii console and sits on your TV.
"Racquet Sports," like most Wii offerings, is family-friendly and easy on the eyes. While players get a small workout lobbing, slicing and power serving, fun graphics also help them imagine they're playing on a Pacific island or inside a Manhattan loft.
The safari version could even be mistaken for "Survivor: Badminton," without the need to eat gross bugs or get dirty.
CC is totally fascinated, but she'll need a year or two to get the hang of it -- although Ian and I needed a few tries to get our hands to sync up with the racquets.
Can't imagine how insane we looked while flailing at the screen -- but it was so fun.
***GIVEAWAY***

UPDATE, JULY 30: Congrats to Jon Weisman, who won the Ubisoft "Racquet Sports" game!
I want to like tennis best, but I really have a soft spot for badminton and ping pong.
ReplyDeleteAnd we're getting my son Wii for his birthday in two weeks ... :)
And I've always liked L.A. Story, but now I like like it.
ReplyDeleteAww, thanks Jon! We like like Dodger Thoughts too. :) And happy (early) birthday to your son!
ReplyDeleteWow! This game looks very fun!! My favorite is tennis although I haven't played squash or badminton!
ReplyDeleteI like LA Story in FB!
ReplyDeleteSuper fun! :) Thanks, Dariela!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun game this sounds like! My favorite racquet sport is racquetball! Probably not on the game, but that's okay!
ReplyDeleteI like LA Story on Facebook!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jill! Racquetball isn't there, alas, but you'll definitely use those muscles. :)
ReplyDeleteTennis for obvious reasons (I coach it). But in addition to that it is a very fun sport and I think I even may have played a little with you back in the day.
ReplyDeleteI think I might remember that ... :)
ReplyDeleteHmmm, well, I will have to say tennis. Although I have been taking lessons for almost a year and am still kinda sucky at it. That Wii game sure would help ;-)
ReplyDeleteJust liked ya on FB!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Dana! It's doubles from the Weisman crew, I love it! :)
ReplyDeleteTennis is my favorite. I used to be on the varsity team, but now I would probably swing and miss. Maybe Wii can help me get back on form. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks @GC! I hadn't really played since my teen years (eek!), and it was still lots of fun.
ReplyDeleteWhat's the best thing about Carlton brand? i have been playing badminton for 3 years now and my brand has always been Yonex. I'd be waiting for your response. More power to you and to your site.
