Happy February! I have some great news. "Expressing Motherhood," the live show in which moms offer entertaining tales about raising little ones (and big ones), is coming back to Los Angeles in March. Not only that, but I'm giving away a pair of tickets to one of the shows. (See below.)
If you haven't seen a performance of "Expressing Motherhood," I highly recommend it. I attended one of the Mother's Day shows last year, and it was both poignant and hilarious. Created by two moms, Lindsay Kavet and Jessica Cribbs, the show features real moms who write and perform their own work.
On stage at the intimate Elephant Space in West Hollywood, the atmosphere is supportive and moving. Seeing these women talk about such personal moments, including the frustrations of childbirth or the challenges of raising a child with special needs, is inspiring and empowering. You can really hear your own voice in the words of another mom. I know I did.

I have seen 2 of the LA Shows, and, still think about both. Very funny and moving performances. Real stories from real Moms that are totally relatable. Well worth the drive from Orange County!
ReplyDeleteThank you mroling! I love that you still think about the shows. I think about them a lot too, the stories resonate. Thanks for making the drive :) Lindsay Kavet Producer of Expressing Motherhood (yes, I'm exempt from winning :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, mroling and Lindsay! It's definitely worth the drive! :)
ReplyDeleteA moment that makes me laugh:
ReplyDeleteI was trying to bring up the subject of prejudice with my 11 and 8 yr old boys. "We wouldn't ever make fun of someone for being African American or tall or gay would we?" My younger one jumps in with, "Gay? That's just stupid, mom." Uh, oh, I am thinking, where did I go wrong? "What do you mean?" I ask him. He answers,"Why would I make fun of someone for being gay? I'm only 8, I might BE gay. We don't know yet."
I didn't even reprimand him for using the word stupid.
My 16 yr. old son just invited me to sit in the back seat while he had his second driving lesson. Little did I know, he had used his i-phone to film my face as we rode. It looked like one of those photos at the end of the roller coaster ride that they display on the monitor when you get off! Yikes! :-)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE these stories! :)
ReplyDeleteThat's hilarious Ann! And love that he taped your face debi44x!
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to seeing the show.
ReplyDeleteI saw the show for the first time last year. Mom of a 3 year and was pregnant at the time. I was laughing so hard. I could already relate to some of what was said and made me think about the upcoming relationship with my unborn son. Also, some things were true of when I was a kid with my own mom!!!.Every mom should see it!!!
ReplyDeleteI have seen one show and was sooo moved. I left thinking the performance for weeks after. I really want to take my sister and mother to the next show.
ReplyDeletei've seen the show in boston and laughed until i cried. then cried for what i've been feeling for years but was never able to put into words. i would love to go again!
ReplyDeleteI love this show and actually performed in one of the first ones! I haven't been, though, in quite some time so I'd love to win the tickets. Thanks for the opportunity!
ReplyDeleteLove this show I have not missed one in 3 yrs!! Go to the show you will LOVE it!
ReplyDeleteMy daughter at the age of 4 had trouble keeping her opinions to herself. We had many chats about only saying nice things, instead of saying "she's fat or ugly". One time at the grocery store, we saw a woman reaching into the freezer for a pint of Haagan Daz Ice Cream. My daughter tugged on my dress and pointed while yelling, "Mom, that lady isn't VERY fat, just sort of Fat. See, I said it nicely just like you said."
ReplyDeleteThe poor woman looked at her Haagan Daz pint, and then slowly put it back.
I slinked down the aisle in the opposite direction, mortified...while my daughter beamed at her "nice comment".
This is a great show! I have been to 3 of them so far and plan to go every time!
